Art Talk: Gwen & Augustus John

There are a number of works by both Augustus John and his sister Gwen John in the Arundells collection, and this talk will explore the life and work of these two extraordinary but very different Welsh artists.

Dr. David Boyd Haycock is a freelance art historian, curator and lecturer, and a Visiting Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University. He read ‘Modern History’ at St John’s College, Oxford, and the History of Art at the University of Sussex. A specialist in Modern British Art, he has curated exhibitions at Dulwich Picture Gallery, Salisbury Museum, the Russell-Cotes Gallery and Museum and the National Horse Racing Museum. His books include A Crisis of Brilliance: Five Young British Artists and the Great War (2009), Lucy Kemp-Welch: Painter of Horses (2023) and Brilliant Destiny: Augustus John & his Young Contemporaries (2023).
