Art Workshop: Drawing Trees in Charcoal
Spend a creative day learning how to capture the character, structure and energy of trees through charcoal drawing in the beautiful historic setting of Arundells.
Led by exhibiting artist Tansy Lee Moir, this immersive workshop will explore how to read the stories written in the shapes and forms of trees and translate them onto paper. Tansy will demonstrate her distinctive approach to drawing with charcoal sticks and powder, revealing techniques that capture not only the appearance of a tree, but also its movement, growth and vitality as a living organism.
The day begins with sketching in the gardens of Arundells, where you will learn to observe and draw quickly and confidently from life. You will then continue developing your work in the Studio Gallery, surrounded by Tansy's exhibition, Seen in the Trees.
Whether you are a complete beginner or a more experienced artist, Tansy will support and encourage you to develop your skills from your own starting point.
All materials and equipment are provided, so there is no need to bring any art supplies.
Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch.
As part of the workshop, participants will also enjoy entry to the house and admission to the Seen in the Trees exhibition.
Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear, and bear in mind that charcoal can be dusty.
