The Importance of Being Earnest

By Oscar Wilde
Directed & Adapted by Sarah Slator

Ernest is Jack. Ernest loves Gwendolen but she doesn’t know he’s Jack. Algernon is also Ernest but he loves Cecily. Both Cecily and Gwendolen are particularly fond of the name Ernest, which is good for Ernest but is a problem for both Jack and Algernon. Then there’s Gwendolen’s mother and Algernon’s aunt, Lady Bracknell. She disapproves. Of everything mostly…except cucumber sandwiches…

Too many characters and not enough actors will see this “Trivial Comedy for Serious People” brought to life by just three performers in a comedic and potentially hat-astrophic production. In a similarly choreographed, character-swapping style to our critically acclaimed productions of The Importance of Being Earnest (2018), The Three Musketeers (2020), A Comedy of Errors (2022) and Persuasion (2024) audiences will love this truly unique adaptation!

Critics have said of our previous hat-astrophic adaptations:

“A gem of a production… Energetic, ingenious and thoughtful drama!”    Brighton Source on The Comedy of Errors

“Artfully designed and cleverly executed… a total joy!”    Living Magazines on The Three Musketeers

“This Is My Theatre have chalked up another triumph!    in/genue Magazine on Persuasion
